Methodology

I. Conceptualizing the Topic

The team started off by holding a lot of brainstorming sessions and experienced several changing of topics, until late August that the group (we call ourselves Team One) finally decided on a subject, the SINARAPAN.

A meeting among the parents and coaches was carried out to inform the parents about financial and academic matters that might be affected by the contest. After which, Team One immediately began the planning of activities, the trips, and the materials needed for the data gathering.

II. The Hunt for Information

The team searched for relevant information from different libraries in Naga City. Then, an interview was conducted with Ms. Joanaviva Plopenio, the deputy director of Institute for Environmental Conservation and Research (INECAR) in Ateneo de Naga University, and with Mrs. Lydia Noblefranca, Senior Aquaculturist of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Pili.

The next day, Team One set out on a trip to Buhi, the home of Sinarapan. The team inquired at BFAR Buhi about the present condition of the same specie to a technical staff, Mr. Glen Agua. He provided us information about the programs of BFAR, the local government unit (LGU) of Buhi and other agencies responsible for preserving the said lake including the Sinarapan. He even demonstrated how to use his Fresh Water Aquaculture Test Kit which is used for measuring the parameters of the lake. The town’s market was the next destination in order to observe the status of Sinarapan as to its commercial aspect. The team had to make first-hand observations on the condition of the lake. They conducted an ambush interview with the local folks by asking them only one question: “Ano ang ipinagmamalaki ninyong isda dito sa Buhi?

The team also had the chance to interview the Municipal Mayor, Hon. Rey P. Lacoste, the Municipal Administrator, Mr. Bethoven "Bitoy" Nachor, and Mr. Alfredo N. Lavadia from the Office of Agricultural Services who gave us enough information about the projects and regulations implemented by the LGU to save Lake Buhi and other lakelets as well as on how to repopulate and save Sinarapan.

III. The Expedition

Mr. Don Jan Sumido accompanied the researchers in going to Lakelet Manapao, the only fish sanctuary left for Sinarapan. It took 30 minutes riding a tricycle and walking to reach the said lakelet. Upon arriving, Mr. Efren Elorde, a local fisherman, demonstrated the steps on how to catch the Sinarapan using the sarap. The team leader also tried to catch Sinarapan using the same device.

After the fun adventure of reaching the location of the said fish, the team went back to the town's centro. A survey and an interview among the residents of Barangay San Ramon and San Pascual then followed to know how proud they were of their own Sinarapan. It turned out, positive results were generated.

 IV. Preparation for Publication

At this point, the technical staff and writers faced the most challenging part of accomplishing the video blog. All the data gathered were organized and put into words to relate the ideas and to answer specific questions for the research. The technical assembly utilized a number of editing softwares such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects and Sony Vegas to enhance selected photos and videos taken during the data collection and it was followed by uploading.
